22 Jun How to Child & Baby Proof Cabinets & Drawers Without Drilling
Childproof cabinets can protect your child from slammed fingers, knives and poisonous cleaning chemicals. They can also save you from the stress of cleaning up unnecessary messes and having to replace worn out cabinet hinges.
Today there are many childproofing options that require no hardware or drilling. These products are easy to install and inflict less damage on your cabinets.
Here are a few simple childproofing methods we recommend:
Adhesive Cabinet Locks
These locks consist of two anchor points that are connected together. Simply stick the anchors to two surfaces of your cabinets. Be sure to clean the area before placing the anchors to make sure the adhesive sticks.
Magnetic Cabinet Locks
These are available with screws or adhesive, so make sure you buy the adhesive kind. These are very simple to install. They typically come with one magnetic key and several locks. Attach the locks to a variety of cabinet and drawers then hold the key in front of the lock to open.
Cord Cabinet Locks
This type of lock works best on round knobs. Simply wrap the cord around the knobs, push the cord stop up, then press the release button when you want to open the cabinet.
Sliding Cabinet Locks
Place the plastic loop around both knobs then tighten the stopper at the end.
Spring Latch Locks
Again, these are available with both screws and adhesive so make sure you buy the adhesive locks. Push the spring latch down until it hooks in place to lock the cabinet. Push the hook downward to open.
Wrap a rubber band around both knobs. You may have to wrap it around twice or in a figure 8 shape so it will be tight enough.
For cabinets or drawers that have handles, you can slide a ruler or other similar object between the handles. This works especially well on vertical cabinets.
If you don’t want to try one of these methods, move dangerous items to a higher shelf out of your child’s reach.
We hope these methods will help you keep your child safe while maintaining the quality and beauty of your cabinets!
